When the Southern Paiute Indians occupied the Pahrump Valley centuries ago, they named the area “Pah” meaning water and “Rimpi” meaning stone or rock.  Pah Rimpi became Pahrump, the Paiute description for springs of flowing water emerging from rock.  Pahrump still has a few natural springs remaining in the valley.  Located in the southwest corner of Nye County and sitting amid the stunning vistas of a vast desert valley, Pahrump covers an area 26 miles long and 8 to 10 miles wide.  Pahrump is centrally located a distance of about 60 miles between Las Vegas and Death Valley, California.  To the east are the Spring Mountains and the snow covered summit of Mount Charleston, which provides ample outdoor recreation abilities.  To the east is the Nopah Mountains with the eastern California border only 10 miles away.

Pahrump also provides beautiful desert weather with average daytime temperatures ranging from the mid 50’s in the winter and reaching into the 100’s in the summer.  Gentle breezes and low humidity levels make the summer temperatures, however seem lower.  Due to its elevation, the nights cool to the 30’s in winter and the 70’s in summer.  There is an average of 216 sunny days a year.

Being located within Nye County, the largest county in area in the State, Pahrump offers the benefits of a neighborhood community as well as a business friendly climate.  More than 30,000 people call Pahrump home and they get more neighbors every day.  The area is a rapidly growing rural and suburban community with a population that has nearly doubled during each of the last two decades.  Governed by a town council with an appointed professional town manager, Pahrump is the largest town in Nye County.

Easy transportation to both southern and northern Nevada as well as California and a friendly economic structure make this area appealing to business owners and developers.  Pahrump benefits from Nevada’s tax structure with no corporate tax, no personal state income tax, no estate/inheritance tax, no franchise tax, no interstate commerce tax and no inventory tax.  Property taxes and sales taxes are also low in Nye County and there is no sales tax on food.  The area offers opportunities for employment with customized job training programs throughout the area as well as major Federal employers.
Pahrump also offers affordable real estate with wide-open spaces to allow for development.  Public land is in abundance and housing costs benefit both growing families as well as retirees.
Therefore, if you are looking for a friendly community with a diverse economy, a warm sunny climate, an outdoor lifestyle and affordable opportunities for land, business, and home ownership, then Pahrump is the place for you.
